Inclusion in Practice: Neuroscience of Leadership for Inclusive Learning Environments

Our Inclusion in Practice series is our partnership with Neural Education to deliver professional learning focused on bringing neuroscience and neurodiversity-affirming approaches together into daily practice to expand access for every learner.

This session serves as a follow-up learning opportunity connected to Neural Education’s Neuroscience of Leadership Institute happening January 2027.

Translating neuroscience into practice tools for supporting complex learning and behavior needs for educator leaders.

Date: February 18, 2027

Time: 9:00 am - 12:00 pm (PT)

A shared belief in inclusion does not always mean schools have the conditions needed to make it a consistent reality. Even with a commitment to “meeting students where they are,” many school systems struggle to move from belief to practice. Teachers feel stretched between inclusive ideals and daily realities, while leaders are left wondering how to sustain momentum without adding “one more thing.” This interactive half-day session builds on the Neuroscience of Leadership Institute by exploring how leaders can move beyond intention and create the conditions for more inclusive practices to take root.

Participants will examine how the mental models we hold about education, disability, and learner variability influence the decisions we make and the systems we create. Through reflection and real school examples, leaders will consider how to shift perspectives, strengthen collaboration with families, and identify opportunities to eliminate barriers to learning while building shared responsibility for access and belonging.

Participants will:

  • Shift mental models about education, disability, and inclusion, while considering how to support similar shifts among staff.

  • Explore what it looks like to identify and eliminate barriers to learning through inclusive practices, systems, and supports.

  • Examine ways to strengthen collaborative partnerships with families and promote positive, meaningful participation within IEP teams.

Price: $89 for institute participants / $129 for non-institute participants

Reframing Rigidity: Neurodiversity-Affirming Approaches to Behavior Series for Parents

As a parent or caregiver, it can be deeply frustrating, or even worrisome, when a child refuses to shift plans, insists on doing things “the right way,” or melts down over seemingly small changes. You might find yourself walking on eggshells, anticipating the next inflexible moment, or wondering why they "just can’t go with the flow." This session invites you to look beneath the behavior with fresh eyes. What if rigidity isn’t defiance or control, but a sign of unmet needs for safety, predictability, or connection?

Reframing Apathy: Neurodiversity-Affirming Approaches to Behavior Series for Parents

As a parent or caregiver, it can be incredibly disheartening or even alarming to hear “I don’t care,” witness persistent refusal, or feel shut out by what looks like avoidance. This session invites you to pause and take a deeper look beneath the surface. What if these behaviors—often labeled as "apathy"—are actually signs of overwhelm, nervous system protection, or a mismatch in expectations?
